By: Chatterbox, Mandarin Orchard Hotel - Is the Most Expensive Chicken Rice in Singapore Worth the Price? - Sparklette Magazine https://sparklette.net/food/grandmas/#comment-254438 Wed, 26 Mar 2014 14:24:25 +0000 http://sparklette.net/food/grandmas-wonderful-family-restaurant/#comment-254438 […] Next comes Singapore’s most expensive nasi lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk). I instantly felt sorry for my friend when the dish was brought to the table. For the over-the-top pricing, you get a few skimpy pieces of chicken, a couple of shrimp, a pile of grated omelette, thin cucumber slices, sambal chilli, peanuts and the rice shaped in a pyramidal form. To its credit, the chilli gravy is right-on-the-money. But at that price, the food should really be more generously proportioned. Especially when you consider that for half the cash outlay, you can enjoy a much more satisfying high-end nasi lemak at the nearby Grandma’s. […]

We reached quite early at 12:10 p.m. There wasn’t a lot of people then but still, our orders of 2 nasi lemak and dumpling noodles came at 1 p.m. People who came later were served first.

The curry chicken on the nasi lemak was cold too.

But I have tried their Nasi Burkari and it’s superb I would say. The Singapore version is just incomparable to the original KL version. The prawns as described are so scrawny till it seems as if they suffer from malnutrition. But they have opened another branch at Paragon, Orchard. Would love to travel up to KL to try it again.
