A stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore is a one of a kind experience. By all means book a guestroom facing the Marina Bay on the highest floor possible. The uplifting view is well worth the price of admission and will literally leave you feeling high for days.

Of course, there are other things to rave about, such as the five-star amenities, the luxurious guestrooms, the consistently excellent service rendered by each and every staff, and the newly revamped Club Lounge.

Yes, the Club Lounge. If you have the dough, splurge on a Club room or even a suite for the Ritz-Carlton Club experience. You get exclusive access to the Club Lounge where you can dine and wine all day long and take in the magnificent panoramic view of Singapore’s city skyline.

Club Premier Suite

On arrival, my family and I are ushered to our Club Premier Suite where we can check in from the comfort of our room.

Immediately we are treated to the spectacular view through the massive glass windows in the living room while the officer briefs us on the Club’s amenities and other services.

The guestrooms do not show any sign of age at all, decked out in hues of cream and light brown, boasting state-of-the-art technology. In the Club Premier Suite, you will find two wall-mounted 46-inch LED TVs – one each for the living room and bedroom, Nespresso coffee machine, and Bose hi-fidelity audio piped in to the bathroom. The free unlimited in-room wi-fi is of impressive speed, easily trumping the broadband I use at home.

The super comfortable king-size feather bed with a Sealy mattress, soft sheets with high thread count, comforter and plush pillows guarantees a good night’s sleep.

For guests’ convenience, the bed is rigged out with universal power points on the sides, so you can charge your mobile phone or use your laptop in bed. And why wouldn’t you?

Baby Ethan loves the bed, even though he has his own cot already right next to the breathtaking view!

Interesting fact: The octagonal windows (eight is a lucky number for the Chinese) in all guestrooms and bathrooms are supposed to enhance feng shui for the hotel. Rumour has it that this is the same reason why the Singapore one-dollar coin is of the same shape.

The luxury bathroom is every girl’s dream. Marbled floor, spacious bathtub, expansive mirror, vanity mirror, double wash basins, Asprey bath amenities, separate shower and toilet (with bidet) stalls, walk-in closet and a killer view to boot.

Even Ethan gets his own bath set as well as slippers. He’s too young to use those of course, but oh, what a nice touch!

Talk about a view. The window overlooks the Singapore Flyer (which looks even better at Christmas)! The staff brought fresh flowers to our room, so obviously we had to put those petals to good use.

Knowing how roomy the bathtub is, we brought along Ethan’s neck float and rubber duckies so that he can swim in it. His own lap pool!

After a soothing bath, be sure to cuddle up in these His and Hers microfibre Ploh bathrobes.

The welcome snacks sent to our room comprise chocolate pralines, Chupa Chups lollipops, Jelly Belly jelly beans and M&Ms, alongside a handwritten card from the general manager himself, who noted that this isn’t our first stay here.

We love those M&Ms!

Club privileges include complimentary garment refreshment (up to five pieces). The work shirts we sent for laundry came back within a few hours wrapped in plastic and boxed up like new.

Club Lounge

With club privileges, you can enjoy all-day dining at the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge (newly renovated in August 2013) perched at the hotel’s top floor.

When the inspiration hits, guests can spend a leisurely afternoon in the Drawing Room sketching the panoramic Marina Bay view. Easel stands, paper and colour pencils are provided.

At 2+ months, we doubt that Ethan can see that distance. But he seems to really enjoy the view while his parents tuck in to breakfast.

Within the hotel itself, there are dining options such as Greenhouse restaurant and Chihuly Lounge. Even so, we prefer spending our time at the lounge just chilling out to the soft music, savouring the food and admiring the scenery day and night.

Five complimentary culinary concepts are presented at the Club Lounge throughout the day:

  • Breakfast (7am – 11am)
  • Midday snacks (11:30am – 2pm)
  • Afternoon tea (2:30pm – 4:30pm)
  • Hors d’oeuvres & cocktails (5pm – 8pm)
  • Chocolate pralines & cordials (8:30pm – 10pm)

Here’s a brief overview of the five culinary presentations.

Midday snacks

Midday snacks comprise mostly canapés, assorted foods in bite-sized portions and desserts in glasses.

I recommend the caramel & white chocolate mousse, topped with a layer of chocolate syrup. They have that at the SuperBrunch buffet too.

Afternoon tea

The har gow (shrimp dumpling) is extremely flavourful, each stuffed with multiple shrimps.

Hors d’oeuvres & cocktails

There is a wider range of dishes, such as sushi, pasta, a laksa or meesiam live cooking station, to choose from during the evening chow hours.

Fitness Centre

In line with the plus-size guestrooms, the 24-hour fitness centre is one of the largest we have come across in hotels.

Located on the same level as the outdoor swimming pool, you can enjoy your workout any time of the day.

Limousine service

The Ritz-Carlton is situated within walking distance from mega shopping malls like Suntec City Mall and Marina Square. Should the need arise, you can use the chauffeur-driven limousine service (complimentary for club guests) to head to nearby attractions such as the Merlion or Gardens by the Bay.

The Mercedes Benz limo ride is equipped with an iPad and newspapers for rear passengers, who can also refresh themselves with bottled water and wet towels.

As is common in the travel industry, we were provided with complimentary accommodation for the purpose of reviewing the service. While it has not influenced this review, Sparklette Magazine believes in full disclosure of all potential conflicts of interest.
