The Grand Hyatt Singapore is a 5-star hotel that caters to business travellers as well as holidaymakers. The luxury hotel boasts a great location in the heart of the lively Orchard Road shopping district. If location is everything, this is it.

Recently, the Hyatt rolled out a suite of guest-oriented enhancements at its hotels around the world. These thoughtful amenities and services include providing items like curling irons, free weights, yoga mats, make-up remover wipes and razors that guests can keep, borrow or buy, and healthier menus.

My family and I checked in for a nice weekend staycation at the Grand Hyatt Singapore, and got a taste of these new improvements.

Our Grand Club room is modern and tastefully appointed, decked out in light-coloured timber interiors.

Stretch out on the lounger and catch a movie from the 37-inch flat screen television and DVD player. High-speed wired internet is available, as well as wi-fi throughout the hotel.

Next to the comfortable work area, the floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the room in natural light during the day. We have a view that overlooks some private residences, so we prefer to have our curtains drawn most of the time.

As a welcome treat, the staff prepared a delicious nutty chocolate cake with a gramophone on it. Why gramophone, you ask? Because Hyatt listens to its guests!

Later that afternoon, they also had hot chocolate drinks sent to our room upon learning that I crave hot chocolate (no coffee or tea for a nursing mom!). The complimentary tea provided to each room is from TWG Tea – good quality stuff.

The bathroom is huge, boasting a marble floor, a quartz vanity top, a bathtub, separate shower and toilet cubicles, and even a dressing table on one end that conveniently opens up to the wardrobe. The wardrobe is where you will find the in-room safe, which has been designed to accommodate and charge laptops at the same time.

June Jacobs Spa Collection

Another enhancement that guests may enjoy is the upgraded bath amenities from June Jacobs Spa Collection.

Families with babies are provided with a bag of travel-size baby products from Pigeon. We also requested to borrow a Novita humidifier to aid in moisturising Ethan’s dry skin. It is one of the many items that guests can loan or buy on Hyatt’s “missing must-haves” list.

One of the new enhancements that I appreciate most is this list that has been created to aid travellers that have lost or plain forgotten to pack something in their luggage. It is expansive and well-thought out, including items the travellers frequently forget to pack such as phone chargers and make-up remover, and uncommon items like flat irons and nail polish remover pads. The list is clearly segregated into two parts so you know which items you can keep and which you can borrow or buy.

Baby Ethan has been pampered too! His baby cot came with a surprise baby seal plush toy (how great is that?). It is made from an infant-safe fabric instead of the furry type that may cause allergies in young children. Out of the hotel staycations we have brought him to, it’s the first time he has been given any toy, an extremely nice gesture that we appreciate.

Wherever there is a bathtub, it naturally becomes Ethan’s own private pool!

The lift landing on every floor offers a spacious seating area for guests as they await the lifts to arrive.

Grand Club Lounge

Of special interest to business travellers may be the exclusive Grand Club Lounge, open to guests staying in Grand Club rooms. The lounge provides a comfortable place for guests to relax during the day or night.

The lounge serves a light breakfast, evening cocktails and canapés, and all-day hot and cold beverages (tea, coffee, juices, water and soft drinks). My husband and I both agree that the spread for the breakfast and evening sessions can be wider. We spot some business travellers having a work discussion here before heading out to Orchard Road for the night.

The in-pool lounge chairs are located right on the edge inside the pool making them look like they are floating on the water, and are easily accessible at the same time.

The Oasis Restaurant provides pool service that enables guests to enjoy their drinks in the freshness of the water while relaxing on a lounge chair. At night, the restaurant serves an all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet with delicious food like pork ribs, lamb shanks, grilled prawns and smoked salmon.

Wood-fired barramundi with pumpkin and seafood jus

As for dining options, the Grand Hyatt Singapore has seven restaurants and bars to satisfy your palate. We had lunch at mezza9, and sat by the show kitchen where Chef Martin gave an in-depth demonstration of cooking Hokkaido scallops, spinach egg and wood fired barramundi with pumpkin and seafood jus.

The Grand Hyatt Singapore is a natural choice for travellers and local staycationers that are looking for a hotel that has great service, a good location and a wide range of facilities. The staff are friendly and treat guests with respect. Even our baby enjoyed the attention he received!

As is common in the travel industry, we were provided with complimentary accommodation for the purpose of reviewing the service. While it has not influenced this review, Sparklette Magazine believes in full disclosure of all potential conflicts of interest.
